چکیده

We determine the strong-isospin violating component of the neutron-proton mass difference from fully-dynamical lattice QCD and partially-quenched QCD calculations of the nucleon mass, constrained by partially-quenched chiral perturbation theory at one-loop level. The lattice calculations were performed with domain-wall valence quarks on MILC lattices with rooted staggered sea-quarks at a lattice spacing of b ∼ 0.125 fm, lattice spatial size of L ∼ 2.5 fm and pion masses ranging from mπ ∼ 290 MeV to ∼ 350 MeV. At the physical value of the pion mass, we predict Mn−Mp|(d−u) = 2.26±0.57±0.42±0.10 MeV where the first error is statistical, the second error is due to the uncertainty in the ratio of light-quark masses, η = mu/md , determined by MILC [1], and the third error is an estimate of the systematic due to chiral extrapolation.

Magnetic Moment and Isospin Symmetry Breaking ∗

The small mass difference m n − m p = 1.3 MeV between the proton and neutron leads to an excess of n = π − p over p = π + n fluctuations which can be calculated by using a light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model of intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs of the nucleon sea. The Gottfried sum rule violation may partially be explained by isospin symmetry breaking between the proton and neutron and the ...

0 Isospin Symmetry Breaking in Nuclei — ONS Anomaly —

We study the binding energy differences of the valence proton and neutron of the mirror nuclei, O N, F O, Ca K and Sc Ca, using the quarkmeson coupling model. The calculation involves nuclear structure and shell effects explicitly. It is shown that binding energy differences of a few hundred keV arise from the strong interaction, even after subtracting all electromagnetic corrections. The origi...

Extraction of the strong neutron - proton mass difference from the charge symmetry breaking in pn → dπ 0

We perform a complete calculation of charge symmetry breaking effects for the reaction pn → dπ0 at leading order in chiral perturbation theory. A new leadingorder operator is included. From our analysis we extract δmstr N , the strong contribution to the neutron–proton mass difference. The value obtained, δmstr N = (1.5 ± 0.8 (exp.) ± 0.5 (th.)) MeV, is consistent with the result based on the C...

Isospin Symmetry Breaking in an Algebraic Pairing Sp(4) Model

An exactly solvable sp(4) algebraic approach extends beyond the traditional isospin conserving nuclear interaction to bring forward effects of isospin symmetry breaking and isospin mixing resulting from a two-body nuclear interaction that includes proton-neutron (pn) and like-particle isovector pairing correlations plus significant isoscalar pn interactions. The model yields an estimate for the...

Meson mixing amplitudes in asymmetric nuclear matter

Using a purely hadronic model, we study the charge-symmetry-breaking ρ-ω, σ-δ, σ-ρ and δ-ω mixing amplitudes in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. The basic assumption of the model is that the mixing amplitude is generated by nucleon and anti-nucleon loops and hence driven entirely by the difference between proton and neutron Fermi momenta and the proton-neutron mass difference. We find that th...
